As an outdoor enthusiast I know sometimes things don’t go according to plan. To be able to have this as a backup to my main tent or bivy is incredibly handy. And the fact it’s so light is a major plus!

Well, while I support the idea of this product being used to keep you warm, or during other outdoor activities and sports like fishing, I would have to say I don’t think this would be a good idea to use when it gets hot outside – as it’s designed to retain heat. Do you believe that this device reflects, absorbs, or retains heat? The cooler is a good idea and addition to your ‘system, ‘ but I think the sun will likely be more powerful, and still leaving you hot and sweaty if used on a warm, sunny day.

Breaking down in the car, and not being able to turn it on and run the heat can be painful – and even fatal.

I also like how they managed to make this ‘tube tent’ design using easy, pack-away tubes to pitch the tent. It’s pretty neat that you can tie this between trees, or pretty much anything else that has two sturdy foundations to connect and setup the tent.

Being able to carry your tent pretty much anywhere is an excellent concept, and I’d say this is a must-have for anyone that frequently backpacks, mountain bikes, or goes on other adventures where this cool technology would make sense! For $16, you can’t beat it!

Without the proper gear, you could easily die. Yes, you might only be going for a 1-mile loop hike from your car, but a freak snowstorm in the summertime could surprise you and leave you stranded. Think it can’t happen? It can and does.

People get dehydrated and die of thirst, when they are surrounded by snow. Why? Inexperience and not knowing what to do. “Oh geez, I’ll just eat snow and that will keep my hydrated. oops, my body temperature dropped and I am cold. Oh look, I quit shivering and my feet don’t hurt anymore. “ Then they wake up and their feet are black. If they don’t die and ar rescued, they will possibly lose their feet. This happens every month out of the year.

There is no reason not to educate yourself and learn as much as you can. Here is tip number one for you, but the Blizetec emergency bivy and keep it with you at all times when you are in the outdoors, it could SAVE YOUR LIFE!

I have been in the high desert of Idaho when it was over 100 degrees during the daytime in middle of the summer with no clouds around and then woke up in middle of the night to frigid weather with snow falling. If we hadn’t been prepared for that, we could have died. Luckily we were equipped with what we needed and also have the knowledge to survive.

A lot of wilderness survival skills come down to using common sense, remaining calm and realizing that you can make it out alive, and then do what you can with whatever you have. An emergency Bliztech bivy will instantly give you shelter and keep you warm, then you can focus your attention on getting water and food. WHy waste time building shelter when you can instead focus on food. In an actual emergency situation, the Blizetech could literally save your life. It is super-lightweight and very cheap to buy. Buy a couple of them and keep one in the glove box of your vehicle.

I have had the good fortune of practically being raised in the outdoors when I was a child. I spend more time outdoors than I do in my house. I hike, camp, and guide hunters to some really remote places. I know and understand survival, and even I have been caught in some sketch situations that had me concerned. Now we got people who watch Survivor Man on TV and instantly think they are an expert too. No, the Survivor TV shows don’t truly show what it is like to be soaking wet in the late fall in cold temperatures after your kayak sinks and is washed downstream without you after it overturns. I could have died, but I had an emergency blanket that was similar to the Blizetech in my jacket pocket. It helped to keep my warm as I dried out my clothes. I eventually made it out. Unlike the television shows, I did not have cameramen all around me as I claimed to be “alone in the wilderness.”

Be safe and educate yourself. with a lifetime of outdoor survival experience, I am still learning new stuff every day too.

My favorite fishing spot is a local lake here and there are very few trees here. Sometimes after sitting in the sun for a few hours fishing I get overheated. I tend to sit in my truck for a while with the air conditioner going, but this mylar tent might also work. Set this bivy up right by my pole, bring a pillow, and realize inside drinking a cold beer from my cooler while the sun reflects off of the exterior of the tent.

I’ve read that firefighters use the space blankets but they are probably a little more advanced than the ones we see for sale everywhere cheaply. With the cheap ones a fire would probably still kill you because if you wrapped yourself in the space blanket, the heat would still build up on the inside toasting you.

I wouldn’t trust the BlizeTec to protect you in the case of a wildfire, but it’s not designed for that. It’s an inexpensive, light, and very portable shelter that can be used in both emergencies as well as by ultralight backpackers. There is no need not to carry a BlizeTec bivy sack in your daypack, even for short 1 mile hikes. It takes up very little space, is super light, and can protect you in case an emergency happens. It would also help protect against a sudden rainstorm.

The “space blankets” used by the BLM and other wildland firefighters are designed to cover yourself in them in case you get stuck in the middle of a fire. The space blankets are a different design, being just a blanket, but it looks like the same material is used in the construction of both products.
