It is not a toy. One must have some diving experience before using the Scorkl. However, it is not rocket science, and there is no need to be afraid. Let basic common sense be your guide. If you are an experienced free diver, or even a casual snorkeler, this product would suit you fine. You would not be diving too deep with it anyway…perfect for a reef dive with your GoPro. Besides, any deeper than about 10 ft is when the colours start to wash out. LEARN how to use this product and use this product for its purpose. Have your sh*t together, have fun. Don’t dive alone.

I have a real genious solution. Get properly certified and proper gear. It does not take a genius to know its dangerous to send an untrained person to drive a car on the streets.

Looks like you didn’t look at the video the pressure gauge is really small and on the other side of the unit you have to take it out of your mouth to look at it. And if there is any water Clarity issues or light issues you won’t be able to read it. And it’s at depths of less than 15 feet where lung injuries are most likely to occur so thinking you’re safe in a pool is exactly the opposite.

Also I would think the tank hanging off your mouth would be fatiguing to hold after a while. Why not put it on your back? Or chest? Then have a hose to your mouth like a normal scuba system. It would be much less intrusive that way. As for range, have two,. one floating on the surface anchored to the bottom if its not too deep. When the air gets low a buzzer should sound. And make make a bigger model and use it with a standard air compressor at home which many people already have. Having two though is the way to go. Nothing like a backup because you never know what you’re going to run across. One could also charge it off your car’s electrical system with a 12 volt pump. Lots of possibilities. Or you could get off your lazy ass and practice freediving so you don’t have to bother with all these hassles!

When the first runs out of air then use the 2nd to get back to the surface, 20 minutes of pumping then it’s back in the water. OK at $200 a pop for the cheapest one it’s a bit expensive but they won’t bear that high price forever plus it would be a good incentive to offer buy two and get the second half price if you had a reason for needing 2.

It’s almost like you didn’t read the article. There is a small pressure gauge included. Also, it says there is up to 10 minutes of air. And LAWN DARTS? Seriously? Pfffwtt.

I totally agree that you have to use with a bit of understanding that you will have 10mins of air at best and therefore don’t go wreck diving. I think that at least a training CD could be included. I’m confident if those who buy this get hooked then the next stage would be a PADI course should they want to go deeper for longer.

This can be a problem for non trained people. I can see someone grabbing this swimming down 30+feet and running out of air then holding thier breath on ascent and pop goes a lung. Be careful be educated.

If we want every product that comes out to be idiot proof things are gonna get boring fast. Slap a warning label on it and roll with it.

I’ve never gone snorkeling before out of fear, but the Scorkl is a game changer! Snorkeling scares me because of all the training you have to go through. I’d be afraid of forgetting something or something happening to me while I’m underwater and no one being around to really help me. I’ve always wanted to vacation somewhere where I can see the fish and the whole underwater environment. The Scorkl sounds like a good solution for me. I’d only want to see out of curiosity and 10 minutes is more than enough time so try it out for the first time. I didn’t know that this was still in KickStarter, but it’s promising. Their KickStarter is way over the goal and it still has nearly a month left to reach its goal. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this one.
