There are, literally, hundreds (maybe thousands) of different characters you can raise in those handheld Tamagotchi toys. In recent years, they even expanded to other pop culture properties, such as Star Wars, which allowed you to raise both R2-D2 and Grogu as Tamagotchi pets. As fun as those two sounds, they surely don’t hold a candle to the newest addition to the line: the Tamagotchi Nano x Star Wars Darth Vader.
That’s right, you can now raise Anakin Skywalker as a Tamagotchi pet, accompanying him every step of the way on his journey to become the infamous Sith Lord. Will he kill you viciously when he grows up using The Force? We don’t know, but throwing in Darth Vader into the mix definitely makes this Tamagotchi a heck of a lot more interesting than your usual fare.
The Tamagotchi Nano x Star Wars Darth Vader is a virtual pet toy that has you taking the role of caretaker to one Anakin Skywalker, a young Jedi figuring out his place in the galaxy. Gameplay naturally runs similarly to other Tamagotchis, so you do all sorts of things to take care of your ward, from feeding him and playing with them to taking care of all his needs. Since you’re caring for the future Sith Lord, though, you also need to help him work on his lightsaber skills, so you can have him training by himself or dueling with others in the game world.
Ten different versions of Anakin will be available in the game, so your ward will grow up and go through some transformations as he develops and advances towards his final form. He will also meet and interact with multiple Star Wars characters along the way, too, so it’s like watching your very own private Star Wars scene generator. According to the product page, your interactions with the character will determine which light side or dark side characters will show up in the game, so the way you treat Anakin will have some effect on the events in the game.
The Tamagotchi Nano x Star Wars Darth Vader also includes recreations of 12 scenes from the various movies, which, we’re guessing, will be taking place throughout the different stages of Anakin’s life. Yeah, that sounds cool. To make it more fun, it also includes five mini-games, including a recreation of the Trench Run from Episode IV (we’re hoping that’s what it is), a duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, and a battle with Luke Skywalker. Sadly, it doesn’t appear there is a way to steer Anakin towards being a Light Sith, which does make sense, since it will ruin decades of Star Wars lore.
The handheld toy comes with a docking case clad to resemble Darth Vader’s helmet, giving you a handy place to store the handheld when you’re chilling at home. It’s only a Tamagotchi Nano, though, so there’s no wireless connectivity, which means Vader won’t be able to meet and interact with other Tamagotchis before killing them with his lightsaber. It runs on two LR44 batteries.
